Forrest's Escort, C.S.A. / 5th Tennessee, U.S.V.

Our living history unit has been around for since 1999 , starting out as the 41st Tennessee Infantry "Rough and Readies" using the same two band Enfields as were used by the original unit. When we showed-up with these weapons, we were often not allowed to take the field because only three band rifles were allowed. If they did let us play, we were often sent over to the dismounted cavalry, where we found out to our amazement, that we enjoyed using pistols and taking cover, when any was available, bushwhacking and generally fighting as our ancestors did in the War Between the States. As time went by, we found ourselves with the 10th Tennessee Cavalry, forming Company E of that unit, armed with both a full scale 3" Ordnance Rifle and a 6 pdr. Breech loading Whitworth as part of our company. While with the 10th Tennessee Cavalry, we then decided it was time to go our own way and represent the men from our own back yard. At that time we found out that the Division Cavalry Brigade, Inc. was the best or one of the best in the hobby, appearing in numerous documentaries and films. In short, to our delight, we applied and were accepted into the Brigade. We now represent the very best Cavalry Company on either side of the great conflict – General Bedford Forrest's hand picked body guard from Lincoln and Bedford Counties, Tennessee, also known as J. C. Jackson's Tennessee Cavalry Company, or just plain "Forrest's Escort Company". Our company consists of mounted, dismounted and artillery troopers. We have our wagon up and running now and it is our objective to field eight mounted and eight dismounted troopers for the upcoming reenactment season.
