Headquarters Greetings, I am Major Jesse “Martin” Martinez, the Field Commander of the 2nd Battalion (Dismounted Cavalry) of the Division Cavalry Brigade. Due to the lack of my given surname in the Union ranks I decided to go by the name Martin. My interest in military history goes back more years then I can remember, studying both historical figures and tactics. I am familiar with both Cooke’s and Patten’s training techniques. I started the hobby with the Eighth Regiment of Illinois Volunteer Cavalry. Since then I have worked my way up the ranks, learning the drills and bugle calls while participating in local and national events. I served as a Non-Commissioned Officer under Captains Jim Getz and Dale Price before becoming the commanding officer of the Eighth. As a member of the First Illinois Battalion I have worked with the officers of the group for several years, serveing as the cavalry commander. As part of the duties of commander of the Eighth I also serve on the planning committee of the Lakewood Forest Preserve event in Wauconda, Illinois, one of Illinois’ larger events. I am also the head of the Willia Battalion, a group consisting of artillery and cavalry civil war re-enactors. The members come from Wisconsin, Illinois, and Iowa, that have come together to promote the hobby. I look forward to commanding the men of the 2nd Battalion, Division Cavalry Brigade, 1st Federal Division. Major Jesse “Martin” Martinez |
