 I am proud to announce that effective immediately that Capt. T. Michael Cheaves is promoted to the rank of Major, Commanding third Battalion of the Division Cavalry Brigade.

Maj. Cheaves has been a member of this Brigade and has served from Sgt. on up thru the ranks .  For several years he commanded the 1^st. Tennessee as a Lt. on many events and has always performed without hesitation, every order and command given him.  Even in the face of extreme odds his accomplishments are many. Rising thru the ranks he has accepted responsibility for each man and has on numerous occasions’ commanded entire companies while maintaining composure and a true gentlemen and officer under any circumstances.  His men have followed him over and through insurmountable obstacles and at every step trusted his judgment. 

 Michael lives in Jefferson City Tennessee with his wife and three children. He has not only served this Brigade but has been a police officer for 35 years serving both his communities and fellow man with dignity, honor and truth.  For the past 18 years he has served the Knox County Sheriff’s office as a Detective so we know we are safe and secure with his gentle and strong hands at our side on any field.

 He began his reenacting career 17 years ago beginning with the 63 ^rd  Tennessee Infantry  (CS)and within a couple years organized the 1^St. Tennessee Cavalry , building it to it’s current membership and has brought many into the hobby under his guidance. For the past 14 years his constant and trusted companion on every assignment has been his long time friend “Dollar” .  His quiet and well trained saddlebred/walking horse of 18 years of age has carried him over terrain that most would consider impossible.

 Please join me in congratulating Major Cheaves as he again steps up to the responsibility he has earned with his tremendous efforts for his men and this Brigade.
